Dress by Trina Turk

Trina Turk was founded in 1995, the design label is celebrating its twentieth birthday this year.   Trina Turk is from southern California and many of her pieces reflect that sunshine vibe.  In recent years though, her collections have included some great, solid pieces that can easily be worn to work.  This leather dress is a style I picked up a couple of years ago, but she definitely has some great items in her fall collection that I would wear for work.

Shoes by Tory Burch

Tory Burch, as I mentioned in my post on Monday of this week, is probably one of the most popular designers with women who work in Washington, DC.  Her clothing and accessories can be appropriate for the office, festive events, holidays away and casual weekends in the city.  Tory Burch is definitely a lifestyle brand.

Another special thing to know about Tory Burch is that she gives back in a big way to women through the Tory Burch FoundationThe mission of the Tory Burch Foundation is to empower and assist women entrepreneurs.

Tory Burch shoes (on sale now) and similar shoes:

The most important takeaway from this post should be that details can make any outfit special and standout even when you are wearing a black dress and black shoes.

This outfit is perfect for work during the the fall and winter.

Over the past few years, leather has become very popular and a staple in work wardrobes.  A well cut, basic black dress is always chic, but the details and the fabric are what bring a piece to life and allow the person wearing it to standout from the rest.

Every store is selling stylish leather pieces right now.  You should not shy away from them.  In fact I would bet that you may end up wearing your leather pieces as frequently as your basic suit for the office.  I suggest because you will look just as professional, but will look and feel completely stylish in the leather.

The shoes I am featuring can be considered a basic black pump.  However, the details make this shoe SO MUCH more.  The shoe is extremely feminine, it has brogue-like details, the ties are made of black and brown woven leather and its exquisite in construction.  If you have a choice, and you do, why pick something that is less than exciting.

Together this dress and pair of shoes are an example of an basic outfit with details to make you a fashionable lady.

This dress is 100% workwear.  I would not wear a dress like this for a cocktail party or weekend party, the cut and style is too conservative.  The only weekend event I would wear this dress for is a dinner party at your boss’s house.  I promise, this dress is for work.

The shoes are amazing and can be worn with everything!  I think they are conservative, classic and tasteful enough for work, but also completely sexy and great for a cocktail party or a date night.

I am sure you think I am crazy that I am suggesting that these heels are for work, meaning all day for most people, but they are surprisingly very comfortable.  I literally sprained my foot in 3 places in August of this year and even though I am still recovering, I can wear these shoes for hours standing, walking, etc.  If you are skeptical or just can’t wear heels for that long of a period of time, I recommend wearing flats for most of the day and then slipping these heels on for a meeting, fundraiser, art show, or whatever publicly facing event is in your lineup.
