This past week I had one of the most amazing spa treatments I have ever had at Celadon Spa.  The treatment is called a SilkPeel, a new service being offered by Celadon Spa.  The SilkPeel is a microdermabrasion to exfoliate the skin and cleanse the pores, together with a simultaneous infusion of specialized serum, chosen to meet the skin’s needs, which treats and volumizes the skin.  My skin has never looked so good.  In fact my skin was glowing, fuller and close to flawless after the treatment.

You may have heard of the ‘diamond facial’ that Hollywood stars do before special events like the Oscars or Grammys to get that ‘red carpet glow’ and this is the treatment!  After having it done I was so thrilled with the results I understand why you would want to have this done prior to a special event.  It’s currently gala season in DC and a facial like this is perfect to get done prior to a Washington gala.  A SilkPeel would be great before any number of upcoming special events like election or holiday parties, weddings or just to treat yourself to feeling and looking great!

The main reason this treatment is so popular is because it ‘plumps’  the skin volume by 70%’ so it produces a cherubic and healthy effect.  Additionally, it great for a lip plumping treatment and temporary eye lifting, a way to avoid anything invasive.

You can see above in the first few photos at the beginning of my treatment that my face and lips lacked fullness, but when you look at the second to the last photo taken immediately after the treatment there is a big difference in the glow and fullness of my skin.

The final photo is a low quality selfie from the day after.  I barely have any makeup on besides mascara and lipgloss and I am completely okay posting the way I look.  I would normally not go out with that little makeup on, so I was extremely pleased with the results!

I can’t say enough good things about the SilkPeel.  I  have been a client of Celadon Spa for over ten years and this past year it has been an honor to partner with them, especially to try out this new service and be able to share the experience and results with other people.  I highly recommend this treatment.  I will definitely be going back and doing this again!

Politiquette Tip: Taking care of your skin is one of the best investments you can make.

I am very happy to say that I am finally back in DC for a while after having been on the road for two solid weeks.  My time away at the RNC and DNC was fantastic, however it wouldn’t have been as easy without having the right luggage.

Luggage is an investment, it is not cheap, but when you travel frequently it is so worth it to have durable, lightweight, rolling luggage.  A few years back I discovered suitcases made from “polycarbonate” a plastic like material.  The shell is made to protect your items, and maintain shape.  The material is also very light.  After I purchased my first suitcase made of this material, I have not turned back.  I am a big fan of Rimowa, but Tumi and Samsonite also make great bags that are similar.  I have tried others but have not been impressed and they have fallen apart.

In addition to using my suitcase for travel I use it for all of my Politiquette photo shoots so it is really important that it is durable.  My Rimowa has been rolled miles around DC and it has been exceptionally durable!

For easy travel, my luggage tips are:

  • A hardshell suitcase
  • Lightweight material
  • 4 wheels that roll all directions
  • Buy from a retailer who will assist you if you have a problem with the suitcase.  You want a retailer who will easily replace something.  I purchased mine from Zappos and they were great when I had an issue.
  • Save the fancy leather luggage for trips in the car, not Amtrak or the plane where it will guaranteed get knocked around and dirty.
  • Ask for luggage pieces as a birthday, graduation, wedding gift.  Helps eliminate the financial burden of having to buy an entire set on your own and people love giving gifts that people will actually use!

I was recently introduced to Cuyana by a dear friend and I’m very taken with the brand.  Their products are made of the highest quality materials and are very reasonably priced.  Cuyana, a women-owned and run company, promotes a life of fewer items, that are stylish and well made. The line is perfect for a women (or man) on-the-go and has everything you need for your summer and political convention travel ahead!

I am personally getting ready to travel to Philadelphia and Cleveland to cover fashion at the Democratic and Republican political conventions and have purchased some of the most amazing Cuyana items to make my travel easier, and of course more chic!

If you also adore the items I have featured in my post today, please join me for a shopping event this coming Wednesday, July 13th, downtown DC, convenient for all of my professional readers to take a coffee or rosé break!

Details on the event and RSVP information below, also more on Cuyana from a previous FamousDC “Fashionably Famous” column.

*Thank you to Cuyana for partnering on this post.

The dress I am wearing in is designed by Clover Canyon, a venture that began in 2011 with Rozae Nichols as their creative director.  From the instant I saw this line I was lusting after the fun, thematic prints.  Every season this designer incorporates culture, art and a lot of color.  The designs are primarily made of a stretchy neoprene fabric (think wetsuits), which allows for the prints to be extremely detailed and colorful.  The fabric that is used also keeps a gals figure in place, no need for Spanx.  Clover Canyon is very reasonably priced and a great way to add some fun to your work wardrobe.  I have worn this dress many times for work with a blazer and it gets a lot of traction.  I picked some other work appropriate pieces by Clover Canyon below that I like.  You could of course wear this dress or something similar for parties, brunch and with flat sandals during the day.

The house in the background of my photos is located in Shaw and is hard to miss due to the interesting mural on the side of the house.  What I have also learned is that it has great notoriety as top place to stay on Airbnb, named the “Blue Bugle B&B.”  I may be moving down the street soon for a night.
